ShoppinG

There are many fun shops along the Yaquina Bay Waterfront and in the Nye Beach area, and several good art galleries. In the Nye Beach Area don’t miss the Nye Beach Book House and the Yaquina Art Gallery and Gift Shop which features art produced by members of the local art association.

Beaches and surfing

Access the beach at Nye Beach, South Beach State Park, Oregon Shore State Recreation Area or Agate Beach State Recreation Area.

Surf or watch surfers at these state parks: South Beach, Agate Beach, Otter Rock and Moolack Beach.

Tidepooling & Lighthouses

Don’t miss the Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area.  The beach here is absolutely fabulous, and the Yaquina Head Lighthouse might be open for visitors.

There is another lighthouse at the south end of town…the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse.  Like many lighthouses this one is rumored to be haunted.

Tidepooling is best at Otter Rock Oregon Marine Reserve, or at Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area.

Farmers market

Saturday from 9am-1pm at the corner of Angle St and Hwy 101 from late March to early December.

Whale watchinG

Gray whales migrate south along the coast toward Mexico from mid-December through mid-January. They migrate north toward Alaska from late February through May. Best places to see them: Boiler Bay State Scenic Viewpoint, Whale Watching Center in Depoe Bay, Rocky Creek State Scenic Viewpoint, Cape Foulweather, Devil’s Punchbowl State Natural Area, Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area, Yachats State Recreation Area, Cape Perpetua Turnout, Sea Lion Caves, and Heceta Head Lighthouse.

DEEP SEA FISHING

There are several deep-sea fishing options available on the waterfront.

Oregon Coast Aquarium & Hatfield Marine Science Center

The Oregon Coast Aquarium is the best aquarium north of Monterey!

The Hatfield Marine Science Center is Oregon State University’s premier oceanographic research facility. Visitor Center is open daily during the summer from 10 am to 5 pm. A less expensive alternative to the aquarium.
